Honoring Innovation in Public Safety & Youth Mentorship
James “JT” Walker, a former firefighter and current public safety instructor, has dedicated his career to protecting the community and preparing the next generation of first responders.
JT is the founder of the Cherokee Fire Cadet Program, a hands-on youth training initiative that teaches high school students emergency preparedness, leadership skills, and real-world public safety experience. Many of his cadets have gone on to become firefighters, EMTs, and military servicemembers.
Beyond his teaching, JT volunteers extensively at local schools, churches, and community events to educate families on fire safety, emergency planning, and home preparedness. His passion for service has inspired hundreds of young people to pursue careers that keep Cherokee County safe.
The Be Proud Awards proudly recognizes JT Walker for his innovation, mentorship, and extraordinary commitment to public safety.
